EMMI Cheese Caves

2009 – 2011
client: EMMI AG, Luzern, Switzerland
office/firm: freelance for designemocion, Lugano, Switzerland
role: project lead Interiors and façade

EMMI is Switzerland’s biggest producer of diary products and its EMMI group one of the biggest worldwide. EMMI’s «Kaltbach» line offers cheese, which matures in a 6km cave system close to Lucerne. For this stunning location I got commissioned to design the visitors center, shop area, conference spaces, an exhibition space and the orchestration of the cave itself.
My work comprises: the building’s façade and the overall Interior Design concept. All furniture was custom made (seating, lighting, wardrobes, shop furniture), for the exhibition space all contents (such as photographs, graphics, motion graphics), were designed and produced by our team, the caves were illuminated by a custom–made underwater lighting system in order to let the «rocks speak» and create a natural and archaic atmosphere.
