Humanising Education through Design

Shorter half-life of knowledge and skills urges today’s learners to give up linear learning paths and engage in non-linear lifelong learning. Even our recent shift towards remote education comes with both boundaries and challenges when it comes to cater the needs of these new lifelong learners. Design naturally embraces non-linearity and iterations, while embedding it into a people-centred attitude. That’s why Design might play a key role when humanising future education, again.

In June 2021, Torino-based Circolo del Design invited me to their annual conference focusing the topic of Humanizing Technology. During our session on a more human future of education we shared great thoughts and visions together with Juan Carlos De Martin – Vice Dean for Culture and Communication at Politecnico di Torino, Hector Ouilhet – Head of Human Centered Innovation & Strategy at Google, USA, Stefano Mirti – Italy-based Designer and teacher and Kris Krois – Head of MA in Eco-Social Design and Associate Professor at Free University of Bozen.
